Bank Tiers

Banks are grouped by total assets into four named tiers. This enables fair comparisons between similarly-sized institutions.

Community

Local and regional banks serving defined geographic markets.

$500M - $5B
Includes: $500M-$1B, $1B-$2B, $2B-$5B

Mid-Market

Growing institutions with multi-state footprints and expanding product suites.

$5B - $25B
Includes: $5B-$10B, $10B-$25B

Large

Established institutions with national reach and full-service product suites.

$25B - $250B
Includes: $25B-$50B, $50B-$100B, $100B-$250B

Titans

Money-center and super-regional banks with global scale.

$250B+
Includes: Money-center and super-regional banks

What about banks under $500M?

Banks below $500M in total assets ("Micro" tier) receive metric rankings but are excluded from performance signature scoring. At that scale, the patterns our signatures look for (margin compression, deposit franchise strength, credit risk growth, etc.) fire too noisily to be reliable. Micro-tier banks still appear in tier-filtered leaderboards and have their own scorecard pages.
